Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Pro rate and tax requests when you use licensed features (via a rates access token)
- License activation and validation requests (key + device identifier)
- Emails you send to Support (and automated license mail from licenses@)
- Feedback you post on the Featurebase board or via the site SDK (message, optional email, optional screenshot)
What we don’t
- Page URLs or browsing history from the extension
- Page content uploaded to FxPeek servers (conversion and optional AI run on-device)
- Advertising or marketing tracking cookies on the website today
- Sale of personal data to third parties
1. Overview
FxPeek is a browser extension and website (getfxpeek.com) that helps you convert foreign prices and estimate costs. This policy explains what data is processed, where it stays on your device, and when limited requests go to our servers or public third-party feeds.
2. On-device conversion (extension)
Before you install: FxPeek may read the current tab URL on your device so convert can inject on that tab and match site grants (This time only, Always on this site, or Always on any website). Optional page hosts are requested only after a user gesture. Page URLs and page HTML are not sent to FxPeek servers.
Price detection and conversion run in your browser. We do not receive the URLs of pages you visit, your browsing history, or the content of those pages as part of Free or Pro conversion.
The extension does not require access to all websites at install. You choose This time only (current tab), Always on for one site, or Always on for any website. Calculator and live rates work without page access.
Preferences, cached rate tables, ignore lists, and similar settings are stored using the browser’s extension storage APIs on your device.
3. Exchange rates and crypto feeds (Free)
The Free experience refreshes mid-market fiat rates and major crypto quotes from public feeds your browser (or our site) requests directly:
- open.er-api.com — fiat mid-market rates
- api.coingecko.com — major crypto quotes
- cdn.jsdelivr.net (fawazahmed0 currency-api JSON) — optional chart history seeds (data only, not executable code)
We do not use those requests to build a profile of sites you shop on.
4. Pro rates, tax estimates, and licenses
Pro features that need our API (for example national-bank-oriented rates or landed-cost tax rate lookups) send authenticated requests to our configured Cloudflare Worker host (set via deploy env; currently api.getfxpeek.com) using a rates access token issued after license activation. Those calls include the parameters required for the feature (such as currency codes or a destination country), not your shopping-page URLs.
License activation and validation send your FxPeek license key and a device identifier so we can enforce device limits. After Polar checkout, an installed FxPeek extension may claim that license from our API using the checkout id on the thank-you page (the key is not shown on the page). Automated license delivery email may come from licenses@getfxpeek.com. Human support uses support@getfxpeek.com.
5. Optional on-device AI fallback (Pro)
Rarely, when heuristics cannot classify a page for landed-cost or price-category gating, Pro may run a small on-device model. The ONNX Runtime WebAssembly engine is packaged in the extension. Optional model weights (currently HuggingFaceTB/SmolLM2-360M-Instruct) download from Hugging Face only after you click Download on-device model in Options → Landed cost, then stay in this browser’s IndexedDB. Chrome may also use the built-in Prompt API when that model is already available (Options can start a Nano download; page convert will not). Inference runs locally on a short text snippet; the snippet is not sent to getfxpeek.com. If the engine or cached weights cannot load, the feature fails closed.
Firefox has no Prompt API; it uses the same packaged engine and optional Hugging Face weights in an extension page (not a content script). The extension does not fetch executable WASM or JavaScript from jsDelivr or other CDNs for this feature.
6. Website preferences
Standalone tools on getfxpeek.com store preferences (and, after unlock, your rates token) in the browser’s localStorage. See the Cookie Policy for how that differs from HTTP cookies.
7. Feedback (Featurebase)
Feature and bug reports on getfxpeek.com can go through Featurebase. That service may store your message, optional contact email, optional screenshot, and similar functional cookies or local storage so the widget and public board work. Featurebase’s own privacy policy governs that processing. The extension does not load the Featurebase SDK; it only links to the public board.
8. Payments
Purchases are processed by Polar (current checkout). Existing or future purchases may also use Lemon Squeezy or Paddle. Their privacy policies govern payment data. We receive what we need to issue and look up your license key.
9. Retention
| Data | Typical retention |
|---|---|
| License records & device bindings | While the license is active and as needed for abuse prevention |
| Support email | As long as needed to resolve your request |
| Featurebase feedback posts | Until you or we remove them from the public board / Featurebase |
| On-device prefs / caches | Until you clear extension or site storage |
10. Your choices and rights
- Clear website data or extension storage in your browser settings.
- Email Support to ask about license records tied to your purchase email.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold — contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
